4.3 FEATURE PROJECT: A FEW DAYS IN WEST PALM BEACH

In between classroom sessions with architectural Photoshop expert Chris Grey and on site architectural photographic shoots with architectural photographer Jeffrey Totaro I actually found a few moments to do some casual photography of my own. Interesting to note that I felt considerably less threatened setting up a tripod and camera in public areas in West Palm Beach than in Port of Spain. Once you are on public property then you usually don’t have too much hassle from guards and … well … there are no vagrants there … what can I say … oh yes the temperature was 75F! So now I am more relaxed and can take my time to compose and wait for the clouds to move around and sun to be in the right spot. It’s quite amazing how the sense of security affects one’s creative urges. It’s not until one experiences casual photography in an insecure third world environment that you begin to appreciate these subtle restrictions that some of us have to accept. Still on the other hand West Palm Beach is so … how shall we say … sanitized that I found that I had to spend some time with Photoshop removing the odd leaf and speck of dirt that really stands out … well there has to be a downside!
